Gliding contests - list of things CD has responsibility for.

Before you can be a CD you must take the AMA test and be licensed by AMA to be a CD.

As soon as contest date has been set -

1. Call Jim McLeod and let him know what day(s) contest will be held.

2. Print application for event form from AMA website, make the form for the contest sanction out and send to treasurer. Treasurer will make out check to AMA and send the form to the appropriate party (see AMA info - do not send to AMA).

3. Person doing scoring has been notified. (If scoring is being done by hand make sure the following items are available: Large papers that have had sections drawn on them, marker pens, calculator, tape for sheets, something to tape score sheets to. (If scoring is being done by computer, make sure you have: computer, printer w/paper, necessary hookup cables and power source).

4. Awards

5. Winches (Clayton Croy has them).

6. Retrievers (Al Dolley and Jim Lipkowitz)

7. Batteries for winches and retrievers. Make sure they are charged. (Jim Lipkowitz usually will lend the club some and hanger has 2 that are kept on charge).

8. Forms for pilots from AMA: Insurance (everyone must sign), Event form (entrant to that event must sign).

9. Score cards. (In hanger)

10. Pencils (In hanger)

11. Landing tapes (at least 4). (In hanger)

12. Plastic bags for trash.

13. Tables (at least 3 card tables are need by scorer and sign up person).(In hanger)

14. Boxes (2) for score cards. (In hanger)

15. Some type of container for pilot/scorer to put card in after flying and time has been put on the card. If there is one container for each class for the card to be place in, then this will be a great aid to the person doing the scoring job.

16. Channel post (check to make sure all channel pins are on it). (In hanger)

17. Golf cart - (gassed and ready to go). (In hanger)

18. Tent (Optional) (In hanger)

19. Clip boards to hold forms and contest standing printouts. (5 in hanger)

20. Make sure treasurer has ordered Porta John pumped. (if needed).

21. Check with treasurer to make sure he will be at contest to collect fees,or if he has selected someone to represent him, remind that person to bring cash box (with change for contestant fees).

22. Conduct a pilot's meeting discussing at least the following; field boundaries, legal landing areas and off limits areas, tasks times, number of tasks, how contest is to be run (open winches or call up for tasks), task in a certain order or open to pilots naming what task he will fly, which events will be run (RES, 2M, STD, UNL, NOS).

23. Conducting an awards session after scores have been calculated.

After contest is held:
All items are taken care of that have been taken from hanger or brought to field, and field has been cleared of any trash.
CD is responsible to see to it equipment is set up before the meet and taken down after the meet. Setting up the winces and retrievers takes about 30 minutes, take down and storage around 45 minutes. This does not include tent put up and take down time.
